San Sebastian survived a revitalized Emilio Aguinaldo College, 87-78, to reach the .500 mark in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup Friday at San Juan Arena.

A 20-point lead after three quarters proved almost futile for the Golden Stags after the Generals started firing their guns and cutting the lead to seven, 83-76, with Hamadou Laminuo converting on a breakaway slam with 44 seconds remaining.

EAC’s heroics were too late, however, and San Sebastian held on to their second win against as many losses with Michael Calisaan scoring the Golden Stags’ final points on a fastbreak layup

Golden Stags head coach Egay Macaraya reminded his team that giving up a 75-55 lead after three quarters is unacceptable.

“I’ve always addressed this, I want them to learn how to win, but medyo napepressure din sila,” said Macaraya. “Especially sa fourth… nag run lang ang EAC nag panic na, at least hopefully next time matuto kaming manalo talaga, every quarter until matapos.”

Calisaan led the Golden Stags with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks while Regie Ilagan had 18 points, including 12 from downtown.

Alfren Gayosa added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double for San Sebastian.

Laminou led the 1-3 Generals with 20 points, 16 rebounds, and six blocks while Sydney Onwubere added 19 points and 12 boards.
