The 2016 national elections season has pushed back the opening of the 13th Season of the Shakey’s V-League, the tournament’s commissioner said.
Tony Boy Liao said the initial date of May 15 was too close to the recently-concluded polls and admitted they needed more time to prepare for the Open Conference.
“Dahil kasi sa election, masyadong malapit ‘yung May 15 sa election period kaya we decided to move the opening,” said Liao.
The elections in the country are always slated on the second Monday of May.
Newcomers Philips Gold join Kia and Air Force as the Metro Manila-based teams while University of the Philippines and National University represent the collegiate teams.
Provincial teams from Baguio and Iriga are also part of the Open Conference.
