PAPI Sarr threw his weight around for a double-double as Adamson finally barged into the win column with a 90-60 pummeling of Lyceum yesterday in the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Cameroonian center tallied 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as he made mincemeat of the Pirates’ interior defense to lead the Falcons to their first win in three outings.
It was Lyceum’s third loss in four starts.
Jerick Ahanmisi wound up with 13 points while Nicholas Paranada had 10 points and seven assists for the Falcons who gave new coach Franz Pumaren his first win.
“We are still a work in progress,” said Pumaren. “We pounded them inside and we became more aggressive on defense. We need the consistency and a little bit of fire.”
Earlier, San Sebastian survived a late uprising from Emilio Aguinaldo College to come away with a 87-78 victory and even its card at 2-2.
Regile Ilagan had 18 points and Alfren Gayosa added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Stags, who watched their 25-point lead almost dissipate at 85-78.
The Stags were made to scramble by a gritty EAC team which went on an 18-4 blitz in the final period. Calisaan scored on a fastbreak layup with less than a minute left to wrap up the victory.
“I want them to learn how to win but the players really felt pressure in the fourth quarter,” said San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya. “I don’t think we panicked on offense. It was on defense where we lost our heads.”
