White: McGregor-Mayweather ‘impossible’ to happen

It’s the fight that has two worlds shaking.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has challenged retired boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather in a fight that would crossover two different sporting worlds.

Both have teased fans with McGregor releasing a photoshopped poster while Mayweather said the fight could be “possible.”

UFC president Dana White, however, quelled any speculations of a fight happening.

Talking to ESPN’s Russillo & Kanell, White pointed out Mayweather’s negotiations with Manny Pacquiao for a fight.

Mayweather-Pacquiao did happen but it took half a decade for the match to happen with the American securing a unanimous decision victory in what became boxing’s most lucrative fight, which raked in upwards of $400 million.

“Let me put it to you this way, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather are in the same sport, it took how long for those two to fight?” said White as per ESPN.com.

“Now imagine how hard it would be to get [Mayweather and McGregor] to fight. They’re not in the same sport.”

Mayweather has always said he would stay retired but the possibility of a moneymaking showcase against McGregor would be big enough of a fight for the former pound-for-pound king to resist.

McGregor, too, had fun with the potential Mayweather fight sharing a photo of two squaring off in a fight poster.
