San Beda ran UE to the ground with a 94-72 victory to open its 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup campaign on Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
AC Soberano dropped all of his 19 points in the first half on a 5-of-8 shooting from threes, setting the tone for San Beda’s rout.
“If we continue to play like this, we might join the track-and-field team,” joked San Beda coach Jamike Jarin.
The Red Lions put on to their running shoes and raced to a 52-33 halftime lead.
Dan Sara added 17 markers and seven rebounds, while Davon Potts got 13 points, five assists, and three boards. Donald Tankoua tallied a double-double with 11 markers and 10 rebounds for the Red Lions.
“I love the way we ran today,” said Jarin, as San Beda poured in 18 fastbreak points to put the Red Warriors down for the count.
“It’s very fast, but the question is can we sustain it? That is the test. We will see,” he said. “If you know you’re good, there’s a danger on it. The thing is how can you be better and how can you be great.”
Paul Varilla carried UE (2-2) with 11 points and eight rebounds.
