Floyd Mayweather Jr. sounds almost sure interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will be one of The Money Team’s newest recruits.
“Of course,” Mayweather, the former pound-for-pound king, said in an interview with TMZ Sports on the possibility of Jones signing with his lifestyle brand. “I mean, there couldn’t be a better team than the Money Team.”
Jones has a scheduled rematch against Daniel Cormier at UFC 200 on July 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada and from the looks of it, Mayweather will be with the MMA star during his training camp in the coming weeks.
“Jon Jones, I’ll be [out] to see you in a couple weeks in Albuquerque, N.M., in training camp,” Mayweather said. “I stood behind you when you went through a little roller coaster ride. Everyone turned their back on you. We’re still here for you.”
Mayweather was referring to the controversies Jones has faced throughout his career including a failed drug test in January of last year and a hit-and-run incident three months later.
The 28-year-old Jones beat Ovince Saint Preux in his return to the Octagon last April 23 in Las Vegas.
