Fajardo sits out Gilas practice, rests swollen knee

June Mar Fajardo sat out Gilas Pilipinas’ Thursday morning practice at Meralco Gym due to a swollen right knee. “Namamaga eh,” he said. Fajardo watched with Jeff Chan, who is also recovering from a groin injury, from the sidelines as coach Tab Baldwin and the rest of the team ran drills. The two-time PBA MVP stayed for two hours before leaving for Makati Medical Center for a checkup. “Sabi lang ni coach Tab ipahinga ko lang. Pahinga lang naman, OK na ko,” the San Miguel center said. It is the same knee the Cebuano giant hurt during the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup. Fajardo, though, assured the team that this injury is no big deal and he’s going to be fine.
“OK lang. Di naman malala. Next time, kaya na namang makapag-practice ulit,” he said. Fortunately for Fajardo, the national team takes a one-day breather on Friday before going back to the grind on Saturday.
