Changes are abound for GlobalPort.
After making it to the semifinals of the Philippine Cup, the Batang Pier performance went south quick and exited early in the Commissioner’s Cup.
During the break, team has had a chance to re-assess itself and decided to shake things up.
Coach Pido Jarencio is now the new head of basketball operations with assistants Johnedel Cardel and Eric Gonzales take charge of leading the team.
GlobalPort also acquired shooters Karl Dehesa and Ronald Pascual in a trade, as well as big man Yousef Taha to bolster its young core bannered by Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.
Team manager Bonnie Tan said the team felt these where right moves to better position themselves for the future.
“We are not only happy, but also excited with our new players,” he said. “Acquiring these young players not only fill in the positions needed, but also gives us confidence that they will contribute their winning attitude, which is what the team is looking for.”
The Batang Pier returned to practice on Wednesday, and with a longer preparation for the next conference, they are hoping to rebound from a woeful showing and end the season on a high note.
“Combined with a solid import, I believe we will be a competitive team this third conference,” Tan said.
