Rodil “Boy” Sablan is officially the new head coach for the UST Growling Tigers.

A source close to the situation bared that the Blackwater assistant just signed a fresh one-year contract on Tuesday afternoon to take over the men’s basketball program for UAAP Season 79.

Sablan has been tasked by the UST administration to lead the Growling Tigers sans leaders Kevin Ferrer, Karim Abdul, and Ed Daquioag after last year’s runner-up finish.

He will be joined by former UST stalwarts Patrick Fran, Rabbi Tomacruz, Tylon Darjuan, Juben Ledesma, and Gina Francisco, along with conditioning coach John Aquino in the new Growling Tigers’ coaching staff.

Sablan is a former teammate of ex-UST star Pido Jarencio in the 1980s who also served as a deputy to the charismatic mentor from 2006 to 2012.

He is serving as an assistant to coach Leo Isaac with Blackwater in the PBA.

Sablan replaced embattled Bong dela Cruz for the post.
