ALBERTO Lim Jr., charged through the third round of boys’ singles with an upset victory over a third-seeded foe but faltered against his German opponent to bow out of the French Open in Paris.

Armed with a powerful forehand, the 17-year-old Lim destroyed Ulises Blanch of the US, 6-3, 6-1, on Wednesday.

But the feisty Tarlac-born Lim failed to sustain his intensity against Germany’s Marvin Moeller who stopped him, 6-2,

6-1, on Thursday.

Moeller, also 17, eliminated 13th seed Wu Yibing of China, 6-4, 6-3, on his way to the third round.

Meanwhile, Treat Huey and partner Andreaj Klepac of Slovenia bowed out in the second round of the mixed doubles following a 7-6, 7-6(3) defeat to fifth seeds Elena Vesnina of Russia and Bruno Soares of Brazil.

Lim and partner Ergi Kurkin of Turkey also dropped the opening round of their boys’ doubles match, losing to Spaniards Eduard Guell Bartrina and Nicola Kuhn, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

“I played very well,” said Lim via a Facebook message to the Inquirer after his second-round match. “My mindset was I have nothing to lose.” Marc Reyes
