Lim modest about joining Davis Cup, SEA Games

FOR SOMEBODY who exudes confidence and fire on and off the court, 17-year-old Filipino tennis star Alberto Lim Jr. is modest about joining the national team in Davis Cup and Southeast Asian Games.

“I will only think about it when they (Philippine Tennis Association) actually put me in the lineup,” said Lim, who is currently the World No. 12 junior player.

He is reportedly being eyed by the Philta and the Philippine Sports Commission to play for the national team in next year’s SEA Games, Asian Youth Games and Davis Cup, and the 2018 Youth Olympics.

“I just focus on how I’m going to improve my game to the next level,” said Lim, who also expressed gratitude to the financial assistance he received from the PSC.

The PSC has released P700,000 financial assistance for his international campaign.

“Of course the additional support coming from the PSC is going to help a lot for my budget competing around the world,” said Lim who hails from Matatalaib, Tarlac.

Lim vowed to level up in the coming tournaments this year including the last two Grand Slams of the year, the Wimbledon and the US Open.

Fresh from reaching the third round in singles in the French Open, Lim said he is optimistic he will do better as he continues his international campaign and break into the top 10 by year-end.

The last Filipino to win a Grand Slam title was Francis Casey Alcantara in the Australian Open junior doubles in 2009. Jeson Patrombon reached reached the quarterfinals in singles also in Melbourne the following year. Marc Anthony Reyes
