University of the Philippines snapped its cold streak in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference, upending an even colder Baguio City, 21-25, 27-25, 25-14, 25-13, Wednesday at San Juan Arena.

The Lady Maroons now have a 1-2 record while the  Summer Spikers fell to a 0-3 hole.

UP head coach Jerry Yee wasn’t all too pleased with his team’s performance in their first two games and even in the first set of their third.

Fortunately, the Lady Maroons heeded their mentor’s call for a better showing.

“First two games vacation mode sorry to say, yun na lang, andyan naman half the effort… nakaka frustrate,” said Yee. “Tapos eto pa mukhang gusto pa namin ipatalo itong game then na realize nila kailangan na bumawi.”

Reigning UAAP Rookie of the Year Isa Molde was one Lady Maroon who upped the ante for UP, after just scoring seven points in their loss against Philippine Air Force, as she finished with a team-high 11 points.

Nicole Tiamzon also had 11 points for UP while Diana Carlos added 10.

Maria Tsuchiya led Baguio City with 13 points while Carmela Dicksen added 12.
