FORMER champions Dave Hernandez, Abe Avena and Rolly Viray banner a lean but mean field seeing action in the Philippine Senior Amateur golf championship that will tee off on June 15 at Summit Point in Lipa City.
The National Golf Association of the Philippines is still accepting registration for the 54-hole championship, left wide open by the absence of former pro and defending champion Eddie Bagtas.
Other members of the rock-solid Canlubang the Luisita squads that have contested the PAL Interclub championship for more than the last two decades are expected to sign up.
The Mid-Amateur championship will also get off the ground on the same date and features players 30 to 54 years old with handicaps of not lower than 7.0 and not over 12 for Division I. Players in Division II must have handicap indices of from 12.01 to 18.
Inquiries can be coursed through the NGAP offices for local players. Tournament fee is P3,000 for local players, $90 for foreign participants and P1,500 for Summit Point members, inclusive of a practice round from June 9 to 14. Deadline for listing is on June 13 at 5 p.m.
The Open division in Senior play will be those for 55 and above. Musong R. Castillo
