Sought-after Iranian point guard Mohammad Jamshidi has been cleared to play for Meralco in the PBA Governors’ Cup after barely making the height limit set for continental reinforcements.

Jamshidi measured in at 6-foot-2 3/4 just a few scratches below the 6-foot-3, the maximum height the PBA set for Asian imports.

“We are pleased to announce that Mohammad Jamshidi, member of the Iranian National Team for the Meralco Bolts as an Asian import in the upcoming third conference,” said Meralco in a statement.

Jamshidi is not new to Philippine basketball, playing a couple of games with the Iranian National Team against Gilas Pilipinas in both of the teams’ preparations for the Fiba Oympic Qualifying Tournament.

“His all-around game, versatility, and experience in international competitions will be a welcome addition to the Bolts,” said Meralco.

Jamshidi had eight points and seven assists in Iran’s 81-70 loss against the Philippines in the tune-up game at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
