PHOENIX may have blown out its opponents, but coach Eric Gonzales remains unimpressed after two games in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup.
“The problem with the players—they know they’re good at comebacks when they’re down,” Gonzales said of the Accelerators, last conference’s champions who routed their first two opponents by an average of 24.5 points.
“When they’re leading, they get complacent.”
Gonzales hopes his players will shake off those habits when the Accelerators shoot for the solo lead against winless AMA Online Education at 2 p.m. Monday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
In the second match, Tanduay tries to rebound from its first loss at 4 p.m. versus the Blustar Detergent Dragons, a new team fielding a core of Malaysian players.
The Dragons will be led by former Ateneo guard Juami Tiongson and players like Mah Chee Kheun, who helped Malaysia capture the recent Asean Basketball League championship.
The Rhum Masters are aching to rebound from a 79-98 rout dealt by the Accelerators.
