National University got back on the winning track after beating Iriga City, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Jorelle Singh tallied a game-high 12 points while setter Jasmin Nabor and Jaja Santiago added 10 and nine points, respectively for the Lady Bulldogs, who snapped a two game losing skid and leveled their record to 2-2.
“Kahit natalo kami sa dalawang games masaya kami kasi college team lang kami and sila selection ng iba-ibang colleges,” said NU head coach Roger Gorayeb.
“Nandoon na yung potential nila. Just imagine tinatalo kami ng club teams ng limang sets and kami pa nauuna. Happy ako kasi yung gusto kong mangyari lumalabas,” he added.
Gorayeb also said the main reason for NU’s success has been the play of Nabor.
“Pinakamalaking factor sa amin si Jas. Kasi kung nakikita niyo walang tensyon between the setter and the spiker.”
Gorayeb is so far pleased with the Lady Bulldogs improved play in the V-League after coming up short in the UAAP last season where they finished in fifth place.
“Malakas yung depensa and yung reception. Yan yung mga nag-improve sa amin,” Gorayeb pointed out.
What also helps NU in the V-League is the team’s mindset.
“Kami kasi at lagi kong sinasabi sa mga bata pagnaglaro kami nothing to lose.”
Maria Alvarez had eight points for the Lady Uragons, who suffered their second straight setback and fell to 1-3.
