Gaston banners PH Senior Am field

FRANCIS Gaston, the charismatic star from Bacolod, joins the wide-open chase for the Philippine Senior Amateur championship that tees off Wednesday at Summit Point in Lipa.

One of only a handful of men to win the regular PH Am and Senior titles, Gaston adds star power to the tournament that won’t have defending champion in Eddie Bagtas.

Rolly Viray, Dave Hernandez, Rudy Amata and Abe Avena are the other notables in the lean field that will dispute the crown over 54 holes using the regular men’s tee of the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course.

Others belonging to the rock-solid Luisita and Canlubang teams in the PAL Interclub are also seeing action in the event for players 55 years old and above.

Gaston was the anchor of several Luisita champion teams in the Interclub and definitely knows how to play under pressure.

Three divisions spread over 36 holes are also on tap with those wishing to play in the 60-64 category bracketed in Division I while those who are 65-69 can play in Division II.  A Super Senior division for players who are 70 and above will be played on Thursday and Friday.
