After a shaky start, Bali Pure managed to shake off jitters and secured at least a playoff for the Final Four stages of the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference after humbling Laoag, 28-26, 25-23, 25-17, Wednesday at San Juan Arena.

Bali Pure now has a 4-1 record after losing its opener with team captain Alyssa Valdez’ crosscourt kill giving them the victory over the Power Smashers, who dropped to 2-3.

Valdez had 20 points to lead the Water Defenders while Grethcel Soltones added 11 points.

Playing-coach Charo Soriano was elated the team finally has a complete lineup after playing their first three with multiple absences.

Bali Pure only fielded nine players in its four-set win over Iriga City.

“I’m just very happy the team’s getting better and better now, kumpleto na kami but we have a lot of things to improve on,” said Soriano whose team is on a four-game streak.

Soriano singled out Mae Tajima who was a mere filler for Ateneo in her five years with the two-time UAAP champions.

Tajima had eight points, a career-high, for the Water Defenders.

“Best example is Mae, she’s improving each and every game, especially with her blocks and she’s more aggressive at the net,” said Soriano.

Dzi Gervacio also had eight points for Bali Pure while Amy Ahomiro had seven.

Jovielyn Prado had eight points to lead the Power Smashers.
