Foton leads favorites in PSL All-Filipino cup

FOTON will be one of the teams to beat when the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference starts this weekend.

The champion of last year’s PSL Grand Prix is gearing up not only for the conference that begins June 18 at FilOil Flying V Center, but also for the Asian Volleyball Confederation Women’s Club Championships.

Team officials led by owner Alvin Lu said the All-Filipino tournament will form part of their preparation for the meet which the country will host on Sept. 3 to 11.

Bannered by young and exciting players like Jaja Santiago and Cherry Rondina, Foton ranks among the favorites in the coming conference along with F2 Logistics, Petron and four-time champion RC Cola-Army.

He added that they are pulling all the stops to form the best possible team in the AVC Clubs where they comprise the core of the national squad.

The Foton roster will have a big share of experience in veterans Maika Ortiz and Rhea Dimaculangan. It will also have Rondina’s former UST teammate EJ Laure and Arellano aces Shirley Salamagos and Danna Henson.

Also in the fold is former La Salle spiker Carol Cerveza as well as mainstays Angeli Araneta, Bia General and Ivy Perez.

Also making up the eight-team field are Cignal, Generika, Standard Insurance-Navy and Amy’s Kitchen-Perpetual.
