If for some reason you’ve ever wanted to own one of Steph Curry’s in-game mouth guards—prepare to break bank.
As per reports from ESPN, California based company, SCP auctions will soon give dedicated fans a chance to own a one-of-a-kind memorabilia from the back-to-back NBA MVP. The mouthpiece was reportedly from a fan who found it on the floor after a Golden State Warriors regular season game.
Dan Imler, vice president of the SCP auctions expects the mouthguard to fetch at least $5,000 (PHP 231,767).
“Steph Curry has given more life to mouthguards than any player in history,” he said in the report. “The way he flips it in and out of his mouth has become part of watching him during a game.”
The transparent mouthguard is marked with the Warriors logo and embedded with Curry’s name and number. It was consigned to the auction company with a case labeled “CURRY.”
In a previous appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last March, Curry said he changes his mouthguard every three to four games.
“I just chew on it like crazy,” Curry told the comedian. “It kind of calms me down, especially when I’m at the free throw line.”
This is not the first time auction houses have sold off similarly odd sports items for a hefty price.
Muhammad Ali’s mouthpiece from his final fight was auctioned off for $6,700 (PHP 310,565) in 2013, while a piece of gum chewed by Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luiz Gonzales was sold in an online auction for $10, 000 (PHP 463,530) in 2002.
