Professional volleyball is back as the Philippine Superliga opened its third year Saturday at San Juan Arena.

Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas president Joey Romasanta ushered in the new season, which starts with the All-Filipino Conference, with a simple opening rites featuring all the teams and players.

“Philippine volleyball is enjoying the trust and confidence of the AVC [Asian Volleyball Confederation], and the FIVB [Fédération Internationale de Volleyball],” said Romasanta.

Cementing the trust of international volleyball’s governing body is the hosting of the 2016 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship the Philippines in October.

It will be the first time the Philippines will host such event.

Petron, the defending All-Filipino Conference champions, headline the eight-team tournament.

Joining Petron are Amy’s Spikers, Cignal HD, Foton, F2 Logistics, Generika, RC Cola, and league newcomers Standard Insurance Philippine Navy.
