Bands, machines mix in final leg of Diamond Motocross Series

NOT just the ear-splitting sounds of machines, but the various sounds of leading local bands will be heard as the fifth and final leg of the successful 2016 Diamond Motor Corporation Motocross Series unwraps this Saturday at the Mx Messiah Fairgrounds in Taytay, Rizal.

Rain or shine, 16-time Rider of the Year awardee Glenn Aguilar is heavily-favored to annex the overall plum in the finale of the five-leg series sponsored by Diamond Motor Corporation. The 42-year-old bike icon has a total of 196 points after topping the fourth leg of the premier pro open production last May 21.

Now 42, Aguilar also won the first and two legs before losing to Bornok Mangosong in the third leg.

Aguilar graced the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum at Shakey’s Malate together with Diamond Motor Corp. SAVP for sales operations Dennis Sibucao, Diamond Motor head of planning and marketing Jon Blaylock, pro lites production rider McLean Aguilar, Generation Congregation director/head Samuel Mark Tamayo, and marketing manager of Xtreme Adrenaline Sports Elgene Cruz.

Aguilar said he learned a lot from motocross idols Ernie Leongson, Jovie Saulog, and Jolet Jao.

Saulog, whose daughter Janelle is the country’s top lady rider, Leongson and Jao are still competing the veterans division in the motocross series.

Blaylock, lead vocalist of the band Firefalldown, said motocross has given the corporation not just a platform for its model lineups including the best seller 2016 Montero and the popular Mirage but the Diamond branch as well.

‘‘It also excites the company. We want to invest on our employees and make them feel the excitement and enjoy what they’re doing. The series benefited the company internally,’’ said Blaylock.

Other featured bands are Slapshock, Silent Sanctuary,Wilabaliw, Maryzak, Greyhoundz, Kneel, Fireflies, and Saydie.

Enzo Rellosa is running second behind the 42-year-old Aguilar in the pro open production with 164 points, followed by JC Rellosa with 149 points.

‘‘I became Number One because of determination and discipline, ‘’ Aguilar in the session presented by San Miguel Corp., Accel, Shakey’s, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

Bicol-based Jepoy Rellosa is ahead in the pro lites production with 164 points overall, followed by Ralph Ramento and McLean, son of Aguilar, at second and third, respectively.

Tough battle is also expected in the ladies division as Janelle Saulog and Pia Gabriel compete for the overall championship.

In the kids level, Ompong Gabriel shows the way in the 85cc, and Wenson Reyes in the 65cc and 50cc, respectively.

Meanwhile, Jolet Jao leads the veterans, while Roman Llorente dominates the executive class.

Tamayo praised the Lord for making possible the series.

“To have a series again after a two-year break is an affirmation from the Lord of his original call for us
to serve Him by making the sport grow.,”
