PSC, swim association tap Mullen

DEVELOPING talents in medal-rich swimming has become a priority for the Philippine Sports Commission.

The agency has joined forces with the Philippine Swimming Inc. in tapping world-renowned conditioning expert Dr. G. John Mullen, DPT, CSCS to share his expertise among the coaches and the new breed of swimmers that the national swimming association has identified.

National head coach Archie Lim said Dr. Mullen’s insights can benefit the coaches in addressing critical issues that they deal with on a daily basis with their athletes.

The swimming association recently named 27 swimmers, aged 18 years old and below, to lead the next generation of Filipino swimmers in international competitions.

Infusing young blood into the Philippine squad has become a necessity after the national tankers failed to pocket a single gold medal in two straight occasions in the 2013 Burma and 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games.

Mullen, a doctorate degree holder in physical therapy from the University of Southern California, is a strength and conditioning specialist who has treated and trained players in the NBA, NHL and professional triathletes.
