Foton bounces back in PSL, trumps Generika
Foton found the right gear in its second game and took the life out of Generika 25-11, 22-25, 26-24, 25-21, to get back to winning ways in the Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference Thursday at San Juan Arena.
Maika Ortiz sealed the Tornadoes’ 1-1 record with her always-reliable running hit as Foton avenged its opening day loss to Petron.
Article continues after this advertisementTheir first win, though, did not come easy as the Lifesavers found a second wind late in the fourth set and came back from a 20-17 deficit to take a 21-21 lead.
Tornadoes head coach Vilet Ponce De Leon knew her team has a tendency to relax when holding a lead and that was evident during the Lifesavers’ quick four-point swing.
“Problema talaga namin is first ball, nung time na yun, bumalik yung pagiging lax nila sa pagkuha,” said Ponce De Leon. “Nakikita naman sa mata nila nagtatanungan sila na kung sino kukuha ng first ball, buti na lang yung part na yun was contained and we were able to advance pa rin.”

Feisty Cherry Rondina had 21 points to lead the Tornadoes while Jaja Santiago showed her versatility with 16 points, 12 coming off spikes and four from blocks.
Shaya Adorador had 14 points for the 1-1 Lifesavers while rookie Wensh Tiu added 13 points.
