OLYMPIC chief Jose Cojuangco Jr. is confident that the Philippine Olympic Committee can forge an efficient partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission under incoming Chair William “Butch” Ramirez.
“I know how he works and I welcome his appointment,” said Cojuangco a day after Ramirez confirmed that he had accepted the offer of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte to lead the government sports agency anew.
Ramirez first headed the sports-funding agency from 2005 to 2009 during the term of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“I’m comfortable with him because we worked together for a long time,” said Cojuangco. “We were together when we won the overall championship in the SEA (Southeast Asian Games) Games.”
Ramirez was the chef de mission when Manila hosted the 11-nation meet for the third time and emerged triumphant for the first time in 2005.
The educator and sportsman from Davao City was also tapped by Cojuangco as CDM in the 2006 Doha Qatar Asian Games where the Philippines produced four gold medals.
According to Ramirez, Presidential special assistant Christopher “Bong” Go would name the rest of the PSC board prior to Duterte’s oath-taking on June 30, with basketball legend Ramon Fernandez as one of the commissioners.
