Streaking Ceres-LS, Global face tough foes

GLOBAL tries to extend its lead when it collides with Forza even as defending champion Ceres-La Salle faces another stern test against Stallion in the United Football League at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Coming off a 3-0 walkover win over Pasargad, Global seeks to stretch its unbeaten start to seven matches in the 1:45 p.m. duel.

Ceres meets Stallion at 4 p.m. sans top scorer Adrian Gallardo.

The Spanish striker will serve a suspension after he was issued a red card for a dangerous tackle on PJ Fadrigalan in their 4-2 victory against JP Voltes last Saturday.

After dropping its opening game to Loyola Meralco, Ceres has racked up six straight wins, but coach Ali Go stressed there’s no room for complacency for his powerhouse team.

“We can’t afford to drop points or we’ll lose the title early in the season,” said Go. “Every game is a must-win especially with the way the other contenders are playing this season.”

Ceres did show some urgency in the second half against Voltes, peppering the Japanese-flavored side with three goals in the first 10 minutes to secure the victory even after going down to 10 men late in the first half.

Stallion comes into the clash against Ceres in fine form after posting three wins and a draw in its last four matches, including a 4-2 trouncing of Nomads last week.

Global notched its sixth straight game Wednesday without breaking a sweat as Pasargad showed up with only seven players. Still, coach Leigh Manson remains confident that his squad will be fit and ready against Forza.
