PHOENIX played one star fewer but still came out too strong for Topstar ZC Mindanao, 126-77, Monday to streak to its fifth victory in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Mike Tolomia took charge in the 49-point blasting as the Accelerators stayed unbeaten even minus last conference’s MVP Mac Belo, who served a game suspension.
“I told the players that I wanted to see the original Phoenix squad last conference,” said coach Eric Gonzales, who had rued the Accelerators’ lack of intensity since topping the previous tournament.
Tolomia scattered 25 points— including 10 in a pivotal 13-7 second-quarter run that sparked the blowout—on top of nine assists.
In the second game, Rashawn McCarthy fired 20 points as AMA Online Education snapped a winless skid with an 81-78 win over Blustar Detergent
