THE TRANSFER of responsibilities in the Philippine Sports Commission will commence today when the agency’s outgoing top officials sit down with the appointees of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
PSC Chair Richie Garcia and returning Chair William “Butch” Ramirez are scheduled to meet at the PSC office at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex along with their respective commissioners to pave the way for a smooth transition.
Ramirez headed the sports-funding agency during the time of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“We’ll discuss the transition as well as important matters like the Olympics and the [2017] SEA (Southeast Asian Games,” said Ramirez. “At the same time, we will set the direction of the new administration.”
Joining Ramirez in the PSC board are incoming commissioners Arnold Agustin, Dr. Celia Kiram, Charles Maxey and basketball legend Ramon Fernandez.
Maxey was the sports editor of Sun Star Davao, Agustin formerly headed the PSC Assistance and Coordination division and Kiram succeeded her husband, the late Sultan Jamalul Kiram, as president of the pencak silat association.
Ramirez said he is bringing in lawyer Carlo Abarquez, who also hails from Davao, as his executive director, replacing Guillermo Iroy.
