Davon Potts took over late to push San Beda past Lyceum, 91-86, in the NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball tournament Tuesday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Potts scored 12 of his 19 points in the final five minutes and 42 seconds to star for the Red Lions, who improved to 2-0, for the second straight time.

“We need this kind of game. This team is very young. Lyceum was coming off a loss and they showed a lot of heart and they even took the lead. In the end we were able to execute,” said San Beda head coach Jamike Jarin.

“We made the big plays especially the one with Mocon in the post and he hit Donald (Tankoua) for the jumper.”

The play Jarin pointed out gave the Red Lions a 90-85 cushion with only 24.2 seconds remaining. But it was Potts, who paved the way in the crucial stages.

“I just wanna contribute and win. That’s my mind set,” said Potts, who also shone in the fourth quarter in a close win over Letran last Saturday.

Javee Mocon added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Dan Sara also had an all-around game with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Pirates, who dropped to 0-2, came back from 12 points down and even pulled ahead, 85-83, with 1:45 remaining before the Lions answered with a 7-0 run.

Wilson Baltazar had a game-high 24 points on 9-of-23 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-16 clip from the three-point area.
