The higher seeds took the early advantage in the semifinals of Spikers’ Turf Open Conference as Cignal and Philippine Air Force repulsed respective foes Wednesday at San Juan Arena.
No. 1-ranked HD Spikers wrecked Sta. Elena in four sets, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24, in the first match of the day.
Raymark Woo led Cignal with 22 points as his team took a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-three series.
Herschel Ramos had 14 points for his efforts while Alexis Faytaren and Ysay Marasigan also finished in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the HD Spikers.
Arjay Onia had 15 points to lead the Wrecking Balls while Berlin Paglinawan and Joven Camaganakan added 14 and 12 points respectively.
It was also a four-set win for the second-seeded Jet Spikers as they surpassed an early hiccup against Instituto Estetico Manila, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.
Fauzi Ismail and Rodolfo Labrador led PAF with 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Karl Dela Calzada and Greg Dolor had 12 points apiece for the Phoenix Volley Masters.
IEM had an incredible attack as the Phoenix Volley Masters unloaded 51 points off spikes but it was their 44 errors that turned the momentum in favor of the Jet Spikers.
