Iloilo hosts ‘river’ duathlon
ILOILO City intends to bring a friendly local vibe when it hosts the Philippine Duathlon Championships 2016: Race for the Iloilo River on Sept. 17.
National duathlon team members Mirasol Abad, Miscele Gilbuena, Bigboy Estevez and John Chicano headline the run-bike-run event that also aims to put the spotlight on the city’s hospitality and environmental cause.
The race features the 10K run-40K bike-5K run standard distance and the 5K run-20K bike-2.5K run sprint distance.
Article continues after this advertisementOrganizers said the race will fire off and finish at the promenade of the Iloilo River, which will give competitors a fantastic view.
The city government led by Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog and Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa, together with the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (Trap), said the event also aims to focus on the cleaning and redeveloping efforts in the Iloilo River.
Registration opens on July 1 with entry fees set at P1,000 for the sprint distance and P1,500 for the standard distance of the race also supported by the Philippine Sports Commission
