Daquis gets emotional as she makes PSL team for FIVB World tilt

Rachel Anne Daquis is one of those volleyball players who always have a smile ready–be it for fans, for teammates, or just for anybody else.

On Thursday, however, the blissful spiker had tears running down her face when she was chosen as one of the seven Filipinos to represent the Philippines in the upcoming FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

Jovelyn Gonzaga, a teammate of Daquis’ at RC Cola Army, was also named to the PSL All Star team.

“Siyempre una nakakapressure kasi hindi naman lahat ng tao naniniwala sayo, pero pinagkakatiwalaan ko na lang ‘yung plano sa akin ni Papa Jesus,” said Daquis as she wiped the tears off her face.

It wasn’t just an expression of euphoria, it was also a representation of melancholy doubters have brought upon her.

When news of Daquis’ inclusion in the PSL All Star Team broke, social media lit up with messages saying there are other players who are more worthy of the spot than the 28-year-old.

“Of course, we cannot please everyone,” said Daquis. “So for me, as an athlete, I’ll try my best to train hard para mawala ‘yung doubt na pinapakita nila sa akin na mga naririnig ko sa ibang tao.”
