AS BALI Pure guns for a championship berth today, playing coach Charo Soriano admits her team needs more of top star Alyssa Valdez.
Soriano notes that Pocari Sweat has all the tools to pull off a comeback, so she wants Valdez and the Water Defenders to vie for a series sweep.
“We’ll definitely go for it,” said Soriano. “We really need Alyssa Valdez in the clutch.”
Game 2 of the best-of-three series is set at 6:30 p.m. at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Philippine Air Force also targets a sweep of Team Laoag in the other duel at 4 p.m.
Just like Soriano, Air Force mentor Jasper Jimenez wants one of his standouts to deliver another big game.
In Game 1, Judy Caballejo fired 15 points—highlighted by set-clinching points in the last two frames—to lift the No. 1 Jet Spikers past the Power Smashers, 25-20, 26-24, 26-24.
“We need that kind of game again for us to make it to the finals,” said Jimenez.
Valdez also starred with 24 points in the Water Defenders’ 25-20, 25-19, 26-24 upset of the No. 2-seed Lady Warriors in the series opener.
