Uesato fires neat brace as JP Voltes stuns Kaya

BUOYED by the brilliance of Japanese striker Takumi Uesato, JP Voltes delivered a blistering finish to stun Kaya, 3-1, Saturday to seize second spot, even as Forza clinched its first win of the United Football League season at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The 26-year-old former J-League 2 campaigner fired a brace to highlight Voltes’ three-goal barrage in the last eight minutes that boosted the club to its biggest victory yet in its maiden season in the first division.

Pouncing on Kaya’s moment of defensive indecision, midfielder Takashi Odawara knocked in the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute with a close-range effort past goalkeeper Matthew Acton, after Uesato had equalized three minutes earlier with a header.

Uesato’s second goal turned out to be more spectacular as he unleashed a shot from 60 yards out that sailed above Acton.

The win boosted Voltes to second spot with 19 points from nine games, while Kaya stayed in fifth spot with 15 points from eight games.

OJ Porteria opened the scoring for Kaya from the penalty spot six minutes into the match, after Voltes keeper Nelson Gasic brought down Robert Lopez Mendy inside the area.

Meanwhile, Forza picked up its first win of the season at the expense of Laos, 3-0.

Ndoe Mekong, Aoki Hayato and Stephen Burda all found the back of the net for a Forza.
