THE REVIVAL of the Philippine Sports Institute will sit on top of the Philippine Sports Commission’s plans for the next six years.
PSC chair William Ramirez said the comprehensive program should be available next month at the earliest.
“Without that comprehensive program, the private sector will not give us a single centavo,” said Ramirez.
The PSC chief earlier announced that the government sports agency would be needing the help of corporate backers to boost the sports development plan.
Training satellites would also rise in different parts of the country, with commissioner Charles Maxey handling Mindanao and Ramon Fernandez the Visayas.
Ramirez said he would ask for the help of former PSC chairs Aparecio Mequi and Philip Ella Juico, also the athletics chief.
Obiena’s Rio bid
Meanwhile, pole vaulter EJ Obiena has barely a week left to make it to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Juico said the national record holder would try to compete in three more tournaments before July 11 when the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) announces the qualifiers to Rio.
Obiena recently finished three competitions in Europe but failed to hurdle the 5.70-meter Olympic qualifying mark.
