It’s been two years since Steve Nash last played in the NBA, but his passion for basketball hasn’t left.
The 42-year-old Nash admits he misses the game and a lot else that comes with it: the winning, the drama and the competition.
Though he gets to watch the players on the court from behind the bench as a player development consultant for the Golden State Warriors and general manager of Canada’s men’s national basketball team, the feeling isn’t the same.
“I do [miss the game], but once I watch them play, it feels so foreign to me somehow all of a sudden,” Nash told reporters during a meet and greet, organized by Fun88, with the Philippine media at Sofitel Manila Wednesday morning.
“But that atmosphere, that tension in the locker room, I miss that. I miss the pressure to perform and to win. That’s something that’s really hard to replace.”
Nash played 18 seasons in the NBA in a career which saw him win back-to-back MVPs, make the First Team member three times and All-Star eight times.
But for all his accolades and greatness as one of the best point guards in NBA history, Nash never won a championship. He announced his retirement in 2015 after an injury-plagued stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.
