Gilas Pilipinas huddled at center court right after its heartbreaking loss to New Zealand Wednesday night before disappearing into the Mall of Asia tunnel.
That emotional exit could also turn out to be the last of Jayson Castro in a Philippines jersey.
Castro, who has been part of the Philippine team since 2012, is contemplating retirement from national duty.
“Ang sama ng game namin. Di namin alam kung anong nangyari e. Outhustled, outplayed, lahat na,” Castro, who stopped by reporters, on his way to the team bus.
The 30-year-old Castro had one of his worst nights in the international stage with 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field with two turnovers.
“Siguro, this is my last na,” said a dejected Castro when asked if Filipinos would still get to see him donning a uniform with the country’s name on his chest.
If Castro does decide to call it quits, his departure will surely deal a huge blow to Gilas.
Castro has been one of the Philippines’ most impressive players with two Mythical Team selections in the previous two Fiba Asia Championships.
