GenSan pug seeks finals

BOXER Christian Laurente secured at least a bronze medal for the Philippines in the Children of Asia International Games in Yakutsk, Russia.

The 16-year-old from General Santos City connected with blows to the head and body for a 3-0 win over Russian Arsenii Arseniev in the flyweight quarterfinals.

Laurente, an Asian juniors campaigner in Uzbekistan and world juniors participant in St. Petersburg last year, will be looking for a spot in the gold-medal match against semifinal rival Olesov Aikaar of Russia.

The Philippines is now assured of two bronze medals after swimmer Camille Lauren Buico reached the podium in the girls’ 200-meter butterfly on Friday. She wound up fourth in the 400m fly. June Navarro
