Sprinter Limos bags 2nd PH bronze in Russia meet

CEBUANA sprinter Samantha Gem Limos handed the Philippines its second bronze medal in the Children of Asia International Games in Yakutsk, Russia.

The 14-year-old Palarong Pambansa champion placed third in the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 12.47 seconds behind winner Yelena Pekhtireva of Azerbaijan (12.24) and second-placer Pawinee Pudburree of Thailand (12.41).

Limos duplicated the feat of swimmer Camille Lauren Buico, who seized a bronze in the girls’ 200-meter butterfly during the Friday’s opener of the meet featuring the finest athletes 16 years and younger from Asia and Russia.

Boxer Christian Laurente clinched at least a bronze after beating Russian Arsenii Arseniev in the flyweight quarterfinals. Laurente battles Russian Olesov Aikaar in the semifinals.

Veruel Verdadero of Dasmariñas, Cavite, missed the podium in the boys’ 100m, placing sixth (11.38 seconds).

Judokas Krizza Joy Amizola and Gabrielle Padilla also lost to their Russian and Mongolia foes. June Navarro
