In a game where one team was bound to improve, it was Jose Rizal University that took the opportunity, raining down on the winless College of St. Benilde, 86-56, to get its first win in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Basketball Tournament Tuesday at San Juan Arena.

The Heavy Bombers finally barged into the win column after three ties while the Blazers are anything but blazing as they fell to 0-3.

JRU immediately took over the game in the first period with a 22-6 shelling from but St. Benilde failed to retaliate.

Heavy Bombers head coach Vergel Meneses, who called out his players for “having no pride,” said this time the Bombers had it in their minds to make a mark in the win column.

“They wanted to prove something, which was nakita ko naman ngayon, said Meneses. “If we play like this, lahat ng teams will have a hard time beating us.”

Paulo Pontejos had a game-high 23 points for JRU while Tey Tey Teodoro and Abdel Poutouochi added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

JJ Domingo led the Blazers with 21 points.
