Allwell Oraeme is arguably the most dominant big man in the NCAA right now. But despite his notoriety, the defending MVP does not take anyone lightly.
After Mapua trounced Lyceum of the Philippines University, 75-64, Tuesday at San Juan Arena, Oraeme said their win had a little bit of retribution after the 0-3 Pirates beat them twice in the offseason.
“It’s a good win for us,” said Oraeme after they extended their start to three straight wins. “They beat us twice in the preseason, and coming into this game we have to be very very careful not to take them for granted.”
Oraeme was right to be wary of Lyceum after the Pirates took the fight to last season’s runners-up San Beda in a 91-86 loss.
If numbers are the only basis of Oraeme’s reputation, it should speak loudly as the reigning Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, put up 22 points, 25 rebounds, and five blocks.
“I just thank my teammates and coaches for trusting and believing in my abilities, and what I can do to help get the rebounds.”
