It only took RC Cola-Army three sets to expose Petron on Wednesday, scoring a 25-22, 25-23, 25-11 rout and remaining unbeaten in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference women’s volleyball at FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Troopers launched a quick, daring assault against the Tri Activ Spikers, who flaunted just a shadow of the form that won this same conference last year via an unprecedented 13-game sweep.

Later, Standard Insurance-Navy outlasted Cignal, 36-38, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 15-8, in a historic match that lasted almost three hours and featured the longest set in the league so far.

Petron had no problem executing its plays with open spikers Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Ann Daquis finding the open corridors to lead the Lady Troopers to their fourth win in as many games.

Gonzaga finished with 15 points, while Daquis had 10 markers.

“We started slow which is something we are trying to change,” said RC Cola-Army coach Emilio “Kungfu” Reyes. “But the good thing is we know each other very well that’s why we were able to adjust right away.”

That’s something the Tri-Activ Spiker failed miserably as their old timers and new acquisitions were out of sync all match long.

Honey Royse Tubino and Joanne Bunag scored nine and seven points, respectively, for RC Cola-Army.
