Francis Munsayac couldn’t help but slump to the floor in disappointment after failing to bail Emilio Aguinaldo College out in the end game.

Given a chance to tie or take the win, EAC team captain turned the ball over and missed a three at the buzzer as Mapua came away with a gutsy 70-67 victory on Friday.

“Sobrang hirap, lalo na crucial pa sa akin yung last na errors. Sobrang mali talaga ako nun at tinake ko yung blame,” said Munsayac as the Generals fell to a 1-3 slate. “Naiyak na ako. Alam ko na sobrang crucial na ginawa kong error.”

With Mapua leading 69-67 in the final 17.3 seconds, a misunderstanding between Munsayac and forward Jerald Serrano led to the former throwing the ball out of bounds.

There was still a glimmer of hope left for EAC after Andrew Estrella split his freebies, but Munsayac backrimmed a potential game-tying three as the time expired.

It really was a tough pill to swallow for Munsayac as the team’s usually vocal leader fell silent inside the dugout.

Fortunately for him, his teammates were there to uplift him and help him move on from the tough defeat.

“Ngayon sila naman ang nag-motivate sa akin. Sobrang down ako na di nila ako makausap. Sana naintindihan nila,” he said.

But there’s no other way for Munsayac and EAC but to move on and instead use the heartbreaking setback to strengthen the team for the long haul with the season still a long way to go.

“Lagi namin sinasabi na it’s a long way pa para sa team namin. Siguro good thing din na lumalaban kami pero may kulang pa kami na sana mabago namin next game,” he said. “For now, talagang masakit sa akin ito. Siguro tomorrow mababago at ma-boost ako next game. Sana magtuloy yung maganda kong laro if ever magkaroon ako.”
