Philippines earns double bronze in AUG volleyball

It’s a double podium finish for the Philippine contingents in the volleyball tournaments of the 2016 as the Ateneo Blue Eagles and Lady Eagles secured their bronze medals Saturday at National University of Singapore.

First it was the Blue Eagles who secured their medal when Ysay Marasigan willed the defending UAAP champions to a three-set sweep of hosts Singapore, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18.

The Philippines settled for a 2-2 card in the elimination round Finishing behind Thailand, 4-0, and Indonesia, 3-1.

Then it was the Lady Eagles turn for their own medal run, edging out Singapore in five sets 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 15-7.

Alyssa Valdez gave the Philippines the 14-7 lead with a crosscourt kill the Singaporeans failed to return.

The Lady Eagles finished their elimination round 1-2, beating only Singapore.
