RC COLA-ARMY outlasted Foton, 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, last night to take the solo leadership in the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference women’s volleyball at FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Rachel Anne Daquis provided the spark for the Lady Troopers with 18 attacks, two aces and one block to lead her team to a fifth straight victory in as many outings.

The Tornadoes fell to 2-3.

Earlier, Petron drubbed Amy’s Kitchen, 25-18, 25-10, 22-25, 25-12 for a fourth win in five games.

Veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Frances Molina and Bernadeth Pons led Petron in breaking down the youthful Amy’s side, which is composed of spikers from University of Perpetual Help Dalta System.

Pontillas finished with nine kills and two blocks while Molina had 10 of her 12 points on spikes. Pons added 11 markers laced with six digs, four aces and a block.

Petron coach George Pascua gambled with his second stringers in the third set and the moved backfired as Amy’s came from 18-22 down to take the lead, 23-22, in the frame.

Jhona Rosal ended a long rally when she scored on a drop to eventually hand Amy’s the victory in the third set, 25-22.

“Losing a set is part of the game,” said Pascua. “That [set] lost allowed us to test our second six so they can easily adjust to game situations when we march into the semifinals.”
