Alaska forward Calvin Abueva sat out the Aces’ opener in the PBA Governors’ Cup, citing fatigue as his reason.

“Siyempre pahinga muna tsaka di pa ako nag-e-ensayo eh. Siyempre recovery muna at therapy,” said Abueva, who was part of the Gilas Pilipinas program.

With Abueva sitting the game out, Alaska lost to Meralco, 100-96 on Sunday.

Bolts head coach Norman Black, who was an assistant with the national team, shared that Abueva has been complaining of a bum hamstring and shoulder ever since the national team’s training in Europe.

“Calvin expressed to us in Italy that his hamstring and shoulder were bothering him,” said Black. “That’s maybe what he did today.”

Abueva said he was experiencing fatigue even before Gilas went to its European tour to prepare for the Fiba Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

“Nararamdaman ko na siyempre baka kailangan ng Pilipinas kaya talagang pinilit natin. Pero nung na-cut tayo, siyempre doon ko na naramdaman lahat ng pagod at sakit,” said Abueva.
