San Beda remained on top of the NCAA Season 92 men’s basketball wars after repulsing Perpetual, 88-70, on Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Donald Tankoua shone anew with a double-double of 20 points, nine of which came in the second quarter pullaway, and 10 rebounds.
“I have to give credit to Donald. Let’s face it: Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze are really good. If he plays at least one of them, we’ll have a chance, but he outplayed them both,” said Red Lions coach Jamike Jarin. “He overachieved and I’m very happy.”
AC Soberano also netted 15 markers on a 5-of-8 shooting from three, while Robert Bolick chipped in 12 points in the San Beda win.
The Red Lions claimed their fifth straight victory and kept their record unblemished as they enjoy the pole position early in the tournament.
But Jarin refuses to be complacent with his team’s current position.
“If you look at the brackets, even as of right now everyone’s stacked up. If you win one, you go up. Lose on, you go down. It’s still too early,” he said.
Gab Dagangon topped the Altas with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Akhuetie and Gerald Dizon both registered 13 markers apiece.
