Ironman live airing targets 2M viewers

THE COBRA Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championships presented by Ford, set Aug. 7 in Cebu, will be aired live via streaming, a first in the country for a premier triathlon event.

The live broadcast of the event over the internet will give triathlon fans and enthusiasts the rare chance to get to feel the action, according to the organizing Sunrise Events, Inc.

Defending champions Tim Reed and Caroline Steffen will lead close to 3,000 triathletes from 43 countries at Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa, including those in the Filipino Elite, CEOs, age groups and relay divisions.

The 1.9K swim, 90K bike, 21K run event is also putting up the biggest prize money ever at $75,000.

The pro category winner will receive $14,000 and the runner-up $7,000 while the next eight placers will get $4,500, $3,000, $2,500, $2,000, $1,500, $1,250, $1,000 and $750, respectively.

Fifty slots to the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championships will likewise be up for grabs.
