Tornadoes set sights on share of PSL top spot
FOTON seeks a share of the lead in the second round of eliminations when it takes on Petron today in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference women’s volleyball at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
After a superb five-set win over three-time champion RC Cola-Army last Thursday, the Tornadoes are favorites against the Tri Activ Spikers in the 6:30 p.m. match.
In Group B action which only determines the fifth to eighth placers, Amy’s Kitche battles Generika at 2:30 p.m., while Cignal faces Standard Insurance-Navy at 4:30 p.m.
Article continues after this advertisementBut for Foton coach Vilet Ponce-De Leon, it’s still a long way to go for the Tornadoes who are also training for the Sept. 3 to 11 Asian Volleyball Confederation Women’s Club Championships.
From the looks of it, the Tornadoes have learned to integrate its heavy hitters like Jaja Santiago and Cherry Rondina along with a solid defense by the net and on the floor.
But the Tri Activ Spikers can’t be overlooked as they are coming from a five-set battle against unbeaten leader F2 Logistics.
