For AZ Reid, San Miguel’s 109-100 victory over Star on Sunday display how scary a locked-in Beermen squad could be for the entirety of the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup.
“This is how we should play. We shouldn’t be happy about that. This is what you all expect from us – to beat people like that,” he said. “Star did a great job. They played hard also, but like I said, my teammates played extremely well tonight. Coach Leo (Austria) did a good job, and everything just seemed to click tonight.”
Reid anchored the offensive load for San Miguel as he unleashed 34 points and 11 assists that went with five steals and four rebounds for the Beermen’s third win in four games.
Save for the Beermen’s shock 105-103 defeat to the Mahindra Enforcer last Wednesday, it has been smooth-sailing so far, and Reid believes that if the team will just put in the effort and play with energy every night, the team will have an easier time on their road to title retention.
“If you look at our team, we played with energy, heart, and soul. We wanted to win,” he said. “My teammates played awesome, they played great. I’ve been on them pretty hard, so everybody came in and made me shut up. They played good ball tonight. We played well offensively, and everybody got involved. We got June Mar (Fajardo) going, which is great for us because they didn’t have an answer for him. We just came to work.”
With San Miguel set to embark on a two-week break, the two-time Best Import wants no letup from his crew as he hopes to sustain the team’s run in the coming games.
“I don’t got no break. I need to win on the 14th. I don’t need no break,” Reid said. “I’m going to be in the weight room, running, shooting, breaking down film, everything. Star is behind us, now my focus is Ginebra. I’m going to go home tonight and watch film on (Justin) Brownlee. It’s gonna be tough.”
“I’ll be on vacation later. I’m here for one job, I’m here to get that gold again. I want it bad.”
